KEY WEST: AMH Wins Superboat Race After Pro-Floors Breaks Down
It was the second shattering heartbreaker of the day in offshore racing as a competitor with an appreciable lead broke down toward the end of the race, allowing a competitor to snatch the win away for themselves.
Pro-Floors Racing, a 38’ Skater owned and driven by Wayne Valder of New Zealand and throttled by Grant Bruggermann of Bradenton, FL, just catch a break. First the team crashed their MTI at the season-ending race in Clearwater, and then suffered mechanical problems in their replacement Skater during the first Superboat race on Wednesday. After leading for the entire Superboat class race on Friday, they broke down again during the final laps, allowing AMH Motorsports, a 38’ Skater owned and driven by Aaron Hope and throttled by Anthony Smith, to grab the lead and finish in first place. (The team had finished in second place on Wednesday.)
Defending World Champion Performance Boat Center/Jimmy John’s finished second after being involved in a battle for third place, with the team finally overtaking M-CON, which had won Wedneday’s race and which had held a solid third-place position today. But then Myrick Coil and John Tomlinson in PBC/JJ eventually passed them. When Pro-Floors broke down, M-CON (a 40’ Skater driven by Tyson Garvin and throttled by owner Tyler Miller) finished in third place.
In fourth place was WHM Motorsports, a 40’ Skater owned and driven by Billy Mauff and throttled by Jay Muller.
