KEY WEST—First Friday Race: Shadow Pirate, Simmons, Two Cruel Win

SimmonsMarine.Com was the winner of Friday's Production 3 Class battle.

Shadow Pirate continued to dominate the race course in Superboat Stock Class as owner/throttleman Nick Scafidi and driver Marc Granet led nearly the entire first of four races on Friday at the Key West World Championships.

The real battle was for second and third place, as CR Racing, Team Allen Lawn Care and FJ Propeller each jockeyed for a podium finish. At various points of the race, Team Allen Lawn Care saw first, second and third place, briefly surpassing the Shadow Pirate to take the lead. Alas, they eventually dropped back to fourth place, leaving CR Racing and FJ Propeller finishing second and third.

In Production 3 class, Wix Filters took an early lead and dominated the class for most of the race (as they did on Wednesday for the win), but ultimately, SimmonsMarine.com overtook them and grabbed the lead and the checkered flag. Wix Filters had to settle for second, with Thee Dollhouse in third. GetRubberMulch.com did not start. SimmonsMarine.com, a 34′ Phantom, is owned and driven by Jim Simmons, with Tony Canale on throttles.

Production 4 competitor JRJ Construction/Team Woody—another boat that won on Wednesday and also had the lead early on—suffered mechanical problems, allowing Two Cruel to win the class.  Team Woody finished second, with Yabba Dabba Doo in third place. Two Cruel, a 30′ Phantom, is owned and driven by Daniel A. Racz, with Cynthia Belfatto on the sticks.
