KEY WEST—First Race: Team Woody, Wix and Shadow Pirate Win
The first of four Wednesday offshore races has ended with three winners: JRJ/Team Woody, Wix Filters and Shadow Pirate in Production 4, Production 3 and Superboat Stock classes.
P4-027 JRJ/Team Woody, the 28’ Lavey Craft piloted by driver Billy Shipley and owner/throttleman Chad Woody, captured the win in Production 4 Class during the first of three races on Wednesday—which itself is the first of three days of racing at the Super Boat International Key West World Championships.
The team beat out competitors Yabba Dabba Doo and Two Cruel on their journey to capture the World Championship in P4 class.
In Production 3 class, the 38’ Fountain Wix Filters took an early lead and stayed out ahead in front of competitors Thee Dollhouse, Getrubbermulch.com and Simmons Marine. Wix Filters, with driver Scott Brown and throttleman Ed Tamberino, finished the season with a National Championship, and are now well on the way to taking the World Championship win.
In Superboat Stock class, CR Racing started off with the lead in front of FJ Propeller and Shadow Pirate, but Shadow Pirate came charging out in front to let FJ Propeller end with second place and CR Racing in third. Shadow Pirate, a 32’ Doug Wright hull, is owned and throttled by Nick Scafidi and driven by former Miss Geico World Champion Marc Granet.
