Pretty soon there won’t be any lifeguards swimming to your rescue as your boat sinks or you get pulled out by the undertow. According to Noras Performance based out of Portugal the future is in remote controlled inflatable buoys which they are currently developing.
The device, dubbed “U-safe,” is a battery powered life saving buoy in the shape of a “u” which uses a pair of small electric turbines to create the propulsion necessary to propel itself short distances to distressed people in the water.
The device is controlled by a thumbstick and once it reaches the person it has enough power to drag them back to the operator, thereby eliminating the use of rescue boats which is particularly difficult when pertaining to large cargo ships.
According to the Noras website, the U-safe is coming soon so keep an eye out for it!
