The Atlantic Museum opening on the seafloor of Las Coloradas Bay is one-of-a-kind. Designed by international artist Jason deCaires, the underwater museum is exactly as it sounds, underwater, and only accessible to snorkelers, divers, and sea life. The inspiration behind the design is the “defense of sea life” and is a protest to the deteriorating condition of the ocean. All of the “exhibits” are submerged between depths of 12 and 15 meters and feature various formations and concepts.

The date is set! This years Cigarette Owners Rendezvous will be June 17-19 and again hosted by the Performance Boat Center and Red Head Yacht Club at Lake of the Ozarks!

Last years event brought huge praise from Cigarette Racing Team Owner Skip Braver. There were over 55 Cigarettes in attendance and this year is sure to be bigger.

Skip and Bud from CIGARETTE will be coming up from Miami to support the event and we all look forward to seeing another gathering of Cigarette owners converge to celebrate life on the water, Fathers Day, and experience the Cigarette Difference!

Just today Skip told us he was blown away by last years rendezvous and praised the professionalism of the event and how great it was to see so many Cigarettes together old to new small to big.

Yes you heard that right. SeaWorld has been having its employees covertly pose as animal rights activists not only at PETA and other activist group meetings but also at their own SeaWorld parks. SeaWorld CEO Joel Manby finally admitted to the practice last Thursday and has since said that the practice is being terminated.

PETA alleges that the corporate espionage was much more elaborate that SeaWorld claims. PETA says that it went way beyond employees wearing PETA shirts and sitting in on planning meetings. “SeaWorld’s corporate-espionage campaign included trying to coerce kind people into setting SeaWorld on fire or draining its tanks, which would obviously have hurt the animals, in an attempt to distract from its cruelty and keep PETA from exposing the miserable lives of the animals it imprisons,” the organization said in a news release.

Just another issue with SeaWorld and the way it’s being run. It will never the less be interesting to see how they squirm out of this one.

The annual Grand Rapids Boat Show that was held February 17-21 has always had every aspect of boating from kayaks to yachts and everything in between. Except for offshore powerboats. The dedicated team at Precision Power Offshore has an unparalleled passion for offshore powerboating, and they’re making it their mission to bring that side of the industry back to West Michigan in a big way!

West Michigan’s offshore powerboating industry returned to the Grand Rapids Boat Show in the form of a 43′ Checkmate Punisher, presented by West Michigan Offshore with invaluable assistance from Precision Power Offshore. The craft has been maintained by the experts at Precision Power Offshore and even fine tuned it to push it to a top speed of 99.2 MPH with its staggered Mercury 700SC’s. To further improve the performance of the boat, Precision Power Offshore also made it a point to replace the NXT drives with SSM VI’s. But bringing a boat to the show is just the tip of the iceberg. Precision Power Offshore is a new sponsor of the one year old powerboat club West Michigan Offshore, and is working to help strengthen powerboating in the West Michigan area, starting with presenting Bill and Monica Reiffer’s one of a kind Checkmate at the boat show.

But they don’t just stop there! Precision Power Offshore wants you to be a part of the comeback! Offshore powerboat poker runs see a return to West Michigan on Saturday, June 18 with West Michigan Offshore and Precision Power Offshore as a sponsor. Together they plan to host the largest powerboating event in years! Make sure to visit West Michigan Offshore to get all the details about the event and how you can participate!

The largest cargo ship to ever reach American shores just docked in Seattle, WA. The Benjamin Franklin is simply a monster. Check out her specs below!

Vessel Benjamin Franklin 1,310 feet
Carries 18,000 cargo containers (almost double the standard 10,000 on most ships)
200 feet tall

At 1,310 feet, the Benjamin Franklin is longer than the height of the Empire State Building, not including it’s antenna spire.

When you think of a sea pirate, technologically advanced is not the first thing that comes to mind. More like a tiny boat over filled with people shaking their AK-47’s in the air. This seems to no longer be the case. Pirates are quickly becoming more adept in their targeting of which boats they go after on the high seas.

According to a Verizon security report, raiders are hacking shipping companies’ content management systems in order to identify easy and valuable target for their operations. This new development has allowed them to launch raids with much greater accuracy, go straight to the exact crates with known valuables, and then leave without the risk of a spiraling hostage situation like with Captain Philips.

Although worrisome that they are beginning to make advances into the technological realm to advance their interests, they are far from expert. They didn’t encrypt their commands or use proxies and left themselves vulnerable to easy tracing. While offering some positiveness that companies now know to look out for such attacks and tactics, it’s still negative and worrisome that these attacks will only increase and become more advanced as time goes on.

Again the Florida Powerboat Clubs Miami Boat Show Poker Run was another huge success. Following the Miami Boat Show the only way to really relax and take advantage of the great water Miami offers is a quick run to the Keys.

Stu and Jackie are always ready to accommodate all the last minute requests and did an amazing job this year managing a fleet of over 70 boats. The addition of the automatic text updates really worked well keeping everyone informed on the days activities and making sure everyone knew where to be and when.

This year also marked the 3rd Anniversary of FPC’s new safety management system which has proven to be hugely successful with the addition of active participation from local rescue and enforcement authorities with fully trained and qualified first responders, divers, firefighters and paramedics at each event.

The Miami Boat Show Poker run has become such a tradition we cant imagine a Miami Boat Show not followed up by the run and look forward to this great event every year.
