Yearly Archives: 2016

The Swoop Motorsports team is bringing the power and speed to Desert Storm and LOTO for 2016! Bringing the big guns to this year’s events, Travis and Summer Richardson will be bringing their high performance DCB F-32 as well as their family’s 388 Skater “Dial 911” to the water in hopes of putting on an awesome show for the spectators while still having a blast themselves.

Planning on releasing their new top-of-the-line website and performance boating product line and apparel at Desert Storm in Lake Havasu City, the Richardsons knew they had to do something out of this world to bring it home. Summer a.k.a. Mrs. Swoop decided to approach her parents Don and Connie London (owner of the Dial 911 Skater) about running the 3600 HP Skater in this years shootouts.

After much consideration over safety issues and the like, Don and Connie agreed to let Summer take it out. With Summer in the Skater it was an easy decision for her dad, Don, to join the team as crew chief since he boasts a storied history of drag boat racing and performance boating since the 1980’s. With unparalleled mechanical knowledge and driving skills he will undoubtedly be the best person for the job.

Don and Travis started modifications to the Skater in lake January, in order to make the Skater better suited to Summer. They replaced the BAM transmissions with Velvet transmissions to handle the 3600 HP on the starting line, also adjusting the throttles, trim indicators, and drivers seat to better fit Summer’s body. Using PCI Race Radios, Summer and her team will be in constant communication for the entirety of the event.

Summer is no novice to speed however. In 2015 she took the Swoop Motorsports DCB F-32 to 143 MPH at Desert Storm and then to an even better 147 MPH at LOTO! While the “Dial 911” Skater is easily capable of posting speeds in excess of 200 MPH, Summer is looking to make safe runs and stay relatively within her comfort zone. The team completed their first test run in February and reported that it went flawlessly, with Summer taking the monster Skater from 40 MPH all the way to 165 MPH with ease.

Looking to put on a great show and build recognition for the sport and more importantly woman drivers, make sure you look for the Swoop Motorsports Team at the Desert Storm street show Thursday night in Lake Havasu where they will be showing off their amazing powerboats for everyone to see!

It may not be much time, but the 2-3 minutes of warning provided by the latest technology developed at MIT may give you enough time to prepare for the worst when it comes to rogue waves.

Argentina’s Navy announced Tuesday that it had used gunfire to sink a Chinese-flagged boat that was fishing illegally in national waters.

While the Chinese government is still looking into the matter and expressed serious concern, Argentina’s navy said that the boat was intercepted off the coast of Puerto Madryn, about 907 miles south of Buenos Aires.

According to the report, the boat ignored all warning calls and instead tried to ram the navy vessel in an attempt to damage it. In response to the hostile action taken by the fishing boat the navy fire live ammo and shot holes in different areas of the Chinese vessel, causing it to sink.

Four people on board the fishing vessel were rescued from the sinking craft and then immediately placed under arrest.

According to the navy it’s been over 15 years since they had to sink a vessel fishing illegally in national waters.

In Beijing, Lu Kang, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, posted a statement on the ministry’s website saying the boat had been fishing in Argentine waters and was chased for several hours before Argentine naval fire holed the vessel. It said four Chinese were picked up by the Argentines and 28 more were rescued by a nearby Chinese vessel.

The statement did not directly address the question of whether the boat was fishing illegally or tried to ram the Argentine navy vessel.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy to Argentina have lodged urgent representations with Argentina, expressing serious concern, urging Argentina to carry out a full investigation immediately and to inform China of the details, to protect the safety and lawful rights of Chinese sailors, and to take effective measures to avoid similar incidents,” the statement said.

The THUNDERBOAT ROW MEDALLIONS, created by Allan “Brownie” Brown, a 17 year veteran of N.E. 188th Street, North Miami Beach, Fl., “Thunderboat Row”.

999-252999-251

Don Aronow invented the high performance boat business on this street. The home of Formula, Donzi, Magnum, Cigarette, Cougar, Apache, Signature, Sea Hawk, Tempest, and a few others, Thunderboat Row became synonymous with speed on the water. Brownie was Aronow’s largest dealer for Formula Marine as General Manager of Challenger Marine, in North Miami. He then joined Aronow at Donzi Marine, having great success on the racing circuit with 28’ Donzis “Broad Jumper”, “Donzi Baby”, “Donzi Blue Devil”. Donzi was sold, and he went to Magnum, where he helped develop the famous Magnum 53 and the Magnum 45. Lured away from Magnum by British race boat builders Cougar Marine Ltd., he was President during a 4 year run of 33 consecutive race wins, national and world championships every year. Cougar moved back to England, and Brownie went to Cigarette as Director of Product Development, in charge of the development of the 35’ Café Racer, 38’ Top Gun, and designer of the 31’ Bullet, 31 Decathlon and the 21’. Thunderboat Row is only a memory now. It sort of died in a hail of bullets years ago.

Now you have he opportunity to own these incredible pieces designed and sold by the only remaining true legend of Thunderboat Row “Allan “Brownie” Brown. If you actually own a boat from this famous street it is a no brainer to buy one. If you don’t own a ThunderBoat Row boat, but live the history and intrigue of 188th Steet you have to have one as well.

The boat on the medallion is Aronow’s famous #1 in full flight.

You heard right. Scientists have finally found what they believe could be the reason behind so many disappearances and anomalies in the Bermuda Triangle.

Scientists have discovered many massive craters beneath the surface of the Barents Sea. Up to a half a mile wide and some as far as 150 feet deep, these giant craters are believed to be caused by the build up methane off the coast of the natural gas-rich Norway.

The methane is believed to have leaked from deposits further below the surface, where they pooled and created cavities which finally burst.

‘Multiple giant craters exist on the sea floor in an area in the west-central Barents Sea … and are probably a cause of enormous blowouts of gas,’ said researchers from the Arctic University of Norway told the Sunday Times.

Scientists also claim the the crater area is one of the largest hotspots for shallow marine methane release ever discovered. The explosions causing the craters to open up could potentially pose risks to vessels travelling on Barents Sea, scientists say.

So now that we have a reason for all of the disappearances and so on… where is all the wreckage?

A 31-year-old Bulgarian man is reported dead after a shocking incident on board the 140-meter superyacht Ocean Victory. The accident took place at Mu Ko Similan National Park in Thailand where as the man was lowering the anchor, the chain somehow became wrapped around his legs, just above the knee, almost severing them completely and causing extensive damage.

Although staff on board tried to save the man, his injuries were to sever and after losing a significant amount of blood he slipped into a coma while on board.

He was then transported to a hospital in Phuket, but the injuries were to sever and he passed away shortly after arriving.

The superyacht is understood to be owned by Russian steel billionaire Viktor Rashnikov and features six swimming pools, a jacuzzi, gym, helipad and a helicopter hangar.

The police confirmed that they have contacted the Bulgarian embassy to inform the man’s family of his tragic death.
