Monday morning marks the first of many migrant deportations to come as two boats left the Greek island of Lesbos and arrived in Dikili in western Turkey.

The EU’s border agency has reported that most of the 131 people being deported were from Pakistan.

Another 202 migrants are expected to be deported later today from the island of Chios.

The deal states that Migrants in Greece will be sent back to Turkey if they do not apply for asylum or if their claim is rejected.

Also a major part of the deal, the EU has agreed that for every Syrian returned to Turkey, they will resettle one that has been found to be a genuine refugee.

NGOs and charities have condemned the plan calling it “legally flawed” and “inhumane.”

About 4,000 migrants and refugees have been detained on the Greek islands since the agreement was put into effect on March, 20th.

It is believed that the agencies involved have only one-tenth the staff required to implement such a plan.

We will keep you updated with the details as they emerge.

North Korea is flexing its muscles. About 280 South Korean fishing vessels experienced problems with their GPS navigation systems. Although the jamming hasn’t caused any major problems to any vessels, the jamming comes hours after North Korea fired a short range missile into the sea out of anger at the ongoing U.S. joint military drills with South Korea.

“The disruption affected the fishing boats by making the GPS signal disappear from time to time throughout the day,” an officer from the South Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries told NBC News. “But so long as the radar works, fishing boats can avoid … accidents.”

In a statement, the South Korean Ministry of National Defense said: “North Korea has been continuously disrupting GPS system since 7:30 pm [Thursday] and thereby interfering and hampering our military movements, which is threatening the safety of our people.

However, the jamming does not appear to have any affect on the military, aviation, or telecommunication systems.

Just this Tuesday a Miami-Dade judge ruled that the village of Key Biscayne’s lawsuit against the city of Miami over the the Miami International Boat Show can continue.

Denying the city’s motion to drop the lawsuit altogether, the judge disagreed with the city and sided with the village in regards to the lawsuit over the city’s creation and use of the Miami Marine Stadium and Basin.

The judge has given the city 20 days to respond to the village’s complaint.

In addition to the lawsuit, the village has also filed an additional suit against the city, claiming that the county violated its developmental rules when approving the boat show.

Ushering in another sure to be fantastic boating season is the much lauded Florida Powerboat Club’s Tampa Bay Poker Run!

Hosted by the extravagant Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Gold Club, the event set for April 1-3 is set to have the largest attendance it’s ever seen.

After last year saw around 40 boats, the FPC already has over 40 signed up with just a few days before the event, and Stu Jones is optimistic the event will have no problem reaching 50.

The Tampa Bay Poker Run usually seen as a send off run as all the Boaters who winter in Florida tend to head back to higher latitudes following this great run.

Membership is required for the event but everyone will be able to enjoy the included aerial photos and poker run video at the end of the run.

In the other side of my life I work with the technical details of Cruise Ships. Massive Horsepower, multiple engines, automation, and the ability to maneuver with pinpoint accuracy. In a recent Cyber Security meeting we had a detailed discussion with regard to VPN’s, Remote Access Controls, and fire walls. The reason is major engine manufacturers have the ability to remote access their engines anywhere in the world to check on operational status, make adjustments to operating parameters, download data, upload new software and have the ability to take control of the engines from thousands of miles away. Additionally, many of us are driving cars which have remote access abilities and simple function controls from any smart phone.

My first thought was how simple this technology is and since big power in the Performance Powerboating world is super expensive why doesn’t someone have this capability. So I asked the guys at Chief Hi- Performance a simple question and I got a simple answer…”We do have this option on our engines and as a matter of fact we have done this in the past.” stated Tommy Hofstetter of Chief Hi-Performance.

When the Honey Party 39 Skater was racing in Great Britain Tommy logged into the engine from his home in Florida while the boat was racing in England. He was able to monitor all aspects of the engines performance live and could have if needed changed settings on the engines while it was running in the race.

Honey Party

This remote monitoring and assistance system is cost effective and invaluable for the active powerboater who is on the move. With the addition of a remote access module to your engines management system the guys at Chief Hi Performance can dial up your engine as soon as you arrive at a new location and modify any one of the MAPS to get the best performance while you are there. Even better is if you have a problem you can make a simple phone call and have Chief call the engine up to see what is really happening with the engine.

This is simple technology but it will only work when you have the high level of dedicated customer service that you get from a custom engine builder like Chief Hi-Performance who will always be there to answer the phone regardless of the day or time of day.

Maybe you can’t start your custom power from your phone (yet) but you can sure use your engines cell phone number as a tool to get the best performance possible and to ensure all is good before you get on plane!

The two have found the merging of their operations and capabilities very exciting for the Lake Havasu event.

Researchers at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland, have developed an innovative unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that can stay on station beneath the water, then launch into the air to perform a variety of missions.

The Corrosion Resistant Aerial Covert Unmanned Nautical System — or CRACUNS — is a submersible UAV that can be launched from a fixed position underwater, or from an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV). A team from APL’s Force Projection Sector worked with fabrication experts in the Research and Exploratory Development Department to create a new type of unmanned vehicle that can operate effectively in two very different arenas: air and water.

Today’s custom built engine offerings have changed dramatically. Ten years ago it was a common place to see engine builders combining various off the shelf stock parts that could easily be ordered from a parts house and assembling engines on the fly. But today the consumers’ demands have elevated what is now acceptable.

These days engine builders with real knowledge of how a product performs are making sure those products perform at a peak level. With the advent of CNC machining centers and the ability to take manufacturing into their own hands, companies like BoostPower USA are continuing the evolution of not only their custom engine packages, but the custom parts associated with them as well.

A recent interview with Alexi Sahagian revealed some of the facts about what is currently on their schedule. Alexi points out that traditional manifold systems are full of shortcomings as they attempt to fill the broadest spectrum of applications.

A Conventional BBC Port Intake
A Conventional BBC Port Intake

“The main reason we design our own port injected manifolds is to have the ability to provide a better distribution of air for the fuel mixture. This makes for a better fuel efficient engine and squeezes every last horsepower out of an engine.

With conventional manifolds, a lot of times engines were forced to tune to the leanest cylinders forcing the other 6-7 cylinders remaining to run richer than needed. For us, with our development team and our relationship with AEM, we are now capable to set the air fuel ratio to each cylinder when using the AEM INFINITY marine ECU capable of individual cylinder trim.”

BoostPower USA builds numerous intake designs for multiple engine configurations, from the custom cast intake manifold for an 18 degree Dart, to the BRODIX pro stock big chief cylinder head. Our manifolds feature robust fuel rail mount, perfected in the racing world to withstand the pounding of offshore power boating delivers. Also available in either giant -8 or -10 fuel rails.

These true direct port EFI intakes are the perfect product for any ultra custom application in single or twin, supercharged or twin turbo, universal custom engines.
