Yearly Archives: 2016

Believe it or not one of our biggest challenges at Powerboat Nation is our ability to get an apparel provider to get what we want, when we want it and have it be as good as we expect it to be.  From the west coast to Florida we have tried all the known names in the apparel business and with the exception of one they have all been HUGE LOSERS…….

The only one who has performed to a High Performance Level is Aaron Roberts and his team at IR Designs.  Aaron has the unique ability to see what you have and then determine what you need.  He also has a huge array of different styles of apparel and even custom build one of kind creations.

In our High Performance world we need high performance apparel and while this entire piece may sound like an advertisement for IR, for us it is really the truth.  Finding a reliable supplier who can develop the art and manufacture the product is really tough.  We hope you like the results as much as the Powerboat Nation girls do!

You can try and make a cool video with next level editing, awesome rock ‘n’ roll soundtracks, and tons of girls in bikinis, but we know that what you really want is to hear the raw, awesome power of unparalleled high performance supercats and vee-bottoms flying past at high speeds on their way to Key West! One complaint we get a lot is how we often put music over footage of boats running. Most often this is because all the mic picks up is wind noise, not engines. This year in Key West we did our best to improve our setup, so you could hear the engines, not the music.

And here it is. Pure performance footage. No music and nothing to taint the purity of custom Chief Hi Performance , Goodwin Competition and other motors roaring at high rpm as they fly by you. We had the great opportunity to be on the water filming as everyone made their way to Gilbert’s on key Largo at the Thursday Departure for the 2016 Key West Poker Run.

So sit back and enjoy the video you’ve really been waiting for and experience the thrill of performance boating for yourself no matter where you are!

Duval Street was packed and crazier than ever this year as all the race boats made their way through downtown Key West past thousands of spectators and race fans packed into bars and in the streets.

We brought the PBN Girls and shot t-shirts and apparel into the crowd of hungry race fans who lined up to get a chance and some free swag! And then we made our way to Rick’s where the party got crazy and the girls when up on stage to dance to the cover band playing tons of AC/DC and Deaf Leopard.

The entire parade was bigger than ever and we hope everyone got a chance to meet and greet with the different race teams and see the boats up close and personal!

We’re already looking forward to next year but make sure you check out the photos and videos from the parade below!

Stu, Jackie and the Florida Powerboat Club have outdone themselves again with the Key West Poker Run a massive success with tons of boats, great food, and fun activities for all event attendees.

With everything planned to a T, there was great food, tunes, and boats at the famous Conch Republic, tons of boats and displays to see if you took a quick walk around the Poker Run Village, and FPC had a massive booth right at the entrance where their beautiful FPC Girls were selling apparel and even doing free body airbrushing for those girls that were daring enough!

With over 185 registered boats participating this year, lunch at Gilbert’s on Key Largo and the annual raft up at Woman Key were incredible.  I have now done this run every year for since 2006 and this year it became even more apparent that I am too close to the event. I had to stand back from the work and again recognize just how special the opportunity to participate in such a great event with great people is.  This run really is Daytona to Nascar or the Superbowl to the NFL, and all of the great people who come from all over the world to boat with us here in Florida know what I sometimes forget.  Thanks to everyone for all the support and friendship!

Special Thanks to Deputy James Engle of the Broward County Sherrif’s Office for the Drone Photos.

The two big winners in Key West this year were Performance Boat Center and Wake Effects.

Performance Boat Center’s 388 SKATER with Myrick Coil at the wheel and John Tomlinson throttling took the final checkered flag for the World Champion Superboat title running an average speed of 96.93 MPH and Wake Effects with owner Rusty Rahm Driving and Jeff Harris on the throttles won the Super Boat Unlimited with an average of 108.20.

Lake of the Ozarks is of course very well known for the Annual Shootout but on any given day you cant find another place in the entire world that has as many high performance boats than LOTO.  The dominance of these two great representatives from LOTO certainly demonstrates just how energized and enthusiaisitc the power boating life is at the lake!

Performance Boat Center took home the FPC’s award for Best Display in Poker Run Village this year and rightly so.

With their Performance Boat Center trailer all decked out with apparel, accessories, and more, it was the complementing piece to the Cigarette Center Console they parked right out in front for all to see and tour.

Their attentive and engaging staff tied it all together and showed everyone how PBC does business and handles customer service on a regular basis, professionally and with care.

If you’re in the market for a new boat, need service, or need storage, the Performance Boat Center should be your first stop for everything!

This year we made our way out to Woman Key for the annual Key West Poker Run Raft Up where perfect weather and flat water made for one of the best raft ups we’ve seen in recent years.

Over 50 boats took part with everyone tying up in various groups. We took the beautiful PBN Girls out with the t-shirt cannon and launched some shirts and apparel at all the partiers hanging out on the boats and in the water which made for an awesome time. Even if our aim was off a bit, the revelers at the raft up were happy to dive in after the goods. As we pulled away to head back to Key West even more boats were pulling up and rafting together.

Take a look below at some of the photos from the raft up and check back for drone footage, video and even more photos later!

New owners Michael and Nikki Pierce from Baton Rouge turned heads this week with their recently acquired 388 Skater “Pure Platinum” previously owned by Bill Pyburn.  Michael has been looking for a new cat for a long time and when the prospect of buying THE Pure Platinum came along the search was over! They brought the high horsepower SKATER to Key West this year and it’s looking better than ever! With tons of accessories and upgrades as well as massive Goodwin Competition Power there’s no denying that Pure Platinum is one of the biggest, baddest powerboats to have ever been built.
