Yearly Archives: 2016

One of the most anticipated powerboating events in the nation is just around the corner! This week, the biggest, baddest, and fastest powerboats in the world will come to the Lake of the Ozarks for the infamous LOTO Shootout.

Last year American Ethanol took home the Top Gun trophy with a top speed of 208 MPH, making it one of the fastest speeds recorded at the Shootout. This year we will see the return of the usual suspects such as Kenny Mungle with Team GONE AGAIN, Myrick Coil with American Ethanol, and Mrs. Swoop who will be driving and throttling in her super big power 388 Skater Dial 911, but we also get to see some new additions like the duo of Yvonne and Tristan taking control of the newest Wozencraft Skater.

As always the entire weekend is going to be filled with nothing but fast boats, parties, and tons of powerboating community fun for all to enjoy. So make sure to mark your calendars and get your bags packed because it’s here and Powerboat Nation will be on scene bringing you all the latest and greatest news from LOTO!

The Maritimo crash in Mackay was one of the biggest crashes in recent years to leave the drivers unscathed and ready to race again shortly after. So with a boat damaged so severely that completion of a rebuild is impossible to estimate, the offshore racing team has decided to use their 42-foot boat last used in the Key West Offshore Championships to stay in good standing. The 42-foot boat is larger than any of the other boats competing but the team feels that the increased size will allow for better handling in rough conditions, and for the time being, to stay in the race fort he ultimate championship title.

Willaton said the goal now was to remain competitive and score as many points as possible going forward with the new #12 boat and Maritimo 11. The team’s aim this year is to be on top of the podium at events from Bowen in North Queensland to Key West in the USA running three individual boats.

This weekend as the Bossard family made their way back home on the Indian River in Brevard County, their boat struck power lines causing the boat to flip, throwing the entire family into the dark waters.

Rescue operations were mounted quickly and within a short time the two adults and one child were rescued from the boat. However, despite all of the confusion, it was not long before Tammy Bossard realized that her 23-month old daughter was still missing.

“We heard (her) crying and we couldn’t find her,” Bossard said. ” I jumped in the water and tried to search but couldn’t hear where the crying was coming from.”

Rescuers and authorities spent almost an hour searching for the girl in the waters surrounding the boat to no avail before Officer Matt Rush and Cpl. Alan Worthy were able to locate the girl trapped under the boat. She had spent the entire time surviving in a the only air pocket created when the boat flipped over.

Saved by the life jacket her parents had put on her before setting out, the girl was in remarkably good condition all things considered. The family was taken to the hospital for evaluations following the accident but there were not serious injuries.

A heroic policeman executed a James Bond -style leap from onto a speedboat after the unmanned vessel ran dangerously out of control.

Incredible footage shows the officer make the death-defying leap from his own boat with no thought for his own safety.

Once on board he wrestles the craft back under control – averting a potential tragedy.

The amazing scene took place on Lake Zurich in front of the small Schoenenwerd Island at the border between the Swiss cantons of Zurich and Schwyz.

Aerial shots of the spectacular manoeuvre were captured from the skies, presumably from a helicopter, and were later shared on social media.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — More than 500 passengers and crew were evacuated on Wednesday from a burning ship about a mile off Puerto Rico’s north coast, and many required medical care, though there were no reported fatalities.

The fire continued to burn aboard the Caribbean Fantasy, a combination cruise and ferry ship, as the U.S. Coast Guard brought passengers into San Juan’s harbor while helicopters whirred overhead. Other agencies and even private vessels joined in the effort before firefighters were ordered to abandon the ship.

“The boat’s systems have collapsed. It’s not safe anymore to work inside the boat,” said Angel Crespo, director of Puerto Rico’s Emergency Management Agency.

The Coast Guard said all passengers and crew were evacuated, and it tweeted that the ship had run aground. Federal authorities were interviewing the captain, Crespo added.

Everyone knows the significance Miami Marine Stadium has when it comes to the world of powerboating. Once one of the greatest boating venues in the nation it has fallen into disrepair after decades of abandonment and it is now up to us to save it!

Backed by Heineken and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, it’s now up to the public to finish funding the restoration! Heineken has already given $20,000 towards the project and individual donations have raised that number to almost $50,000, but it’s still only half of what’s really needed to get this project started.

But in case you needed more motivation than being a part of saving a national, historic icon, the donations come with gifts in return for your generosity. You can even own one of the stadium’s original seats. Owning a part of history has never been so readily available as it is now!

Be sure to go check out the crowdfunding page that’s been set up on www.indiegogo.com.

In an effort to further promote the camaraderie and pure fun of powerboating events these days, Tristan Collins Garvin and Yvonne Aleman, both well respected women in our powerboating family, are taking the wheel and throttles of the new Wozencraft 30′ Skater at the LOTO Shootout this month!

In an event primarily male, it’s always great to see such strong women getting behind the throttles of a brand new Skater to show us all that no matter who you are, powerboating is a past-time and a sport that we can all enjoy.

“Our true motivation is promoting the sport of power boating, having fun, and oh yea.. a bit of girl power too!” – Devin Wozencraft

The girls are planning on doing some trial runs before the event with Tyson Garvin to see what they’re comfortable with before tackling the actual shootout. According to Devin Wozencraft, his boat is sporting Twin Merc 300XS Optimax outboards which he surmises can push the boat to a little over 100 mph. But Devin’s focus is not on the speed. It’s on the outreach.

“I think this is a great sport and I have a true passion for boating.  I was raised boating with my family having lake boats.  I am fortunate to work in an industry I love.  I get to go to boating events with friends, build new relationships, promote Wozencraft Insurance, and get paid to do it.”

That’s what it’s all about for Devin, Tristan, and Yvonne, and we’re already looking forward to seeing the duo push it to the limit in the shootout just right around the corner! So make sure you grab a seat and look for the boat out on the water, but don’t forget to stop on by the Wozencraft booth at the street party Wednesday or give ’em a quick wave on the following Poker Run.

We’re all one powerboating family, and it’s time that family grew!

We’re excited to announce that the production of DCB’s brand new M28 and M44 models has begun, and their completion is slated for early next year! It’s always a pleasure to see such an elite manufacturer and brand expand and develop brand new models for the marketplace that will without a doubt be instant successes.

Continuing the legacy of their iconic M-Series line, it’s simply the next step in evolution for DCB to unveil both a shorter model as well as an outrageously longer M44. We’re looking forward to seeing the progress as these two take form over the next few months.
