Plans are well underway for the next, and 75th annual Progressive Insurance Miami International Boat Show to be held February 11th-15th, 2016 at its new home, Miami Marine Stadium Park and Basin on the Virginia Key. Access to the show will be available by both car, bus and water taxi. Unlike the current location, ample parking will be available to show goers and exhibitors alike. A dedicated launch service will be available as well to boats anchored offshore. A dedicated Marina will be right on the show site as well. $16 Million in infrastructure improvements are planned to rejuvenate the site. Check out the video to preview plans.

 

here is something about a CIGARETTE running offshore Miami that will always capture the mystic and attraction to offshore powerboating. In my mind running down Miami Beach is the absolute ultimate and I am so fortunate to be able to live here and do it in a CIGARETTE.

After the Boat Show and the Miami Boat Show Poker Run Team CIGARETTE had the time to get the boat wet and run off of Miami.

While at the Miami Boat Show I had great opportunity to visit with many PowerBoatNation friends. While talking with my old buddy Joe Schaldenbrand, one of the brother owners of Sunsation Powerboats, Joe told us he had just had a first ever happen. He had sold a boat without even trying, without even knowing the person to whom he was speaking too was interested, and the second first ever was that he sold the boat to a existing customer who already had another boat on order.

Two “First Evers” and the boat show still had a few days left for more!

The customer was a long time and very good…no GREAT….Sunsation customer, Mr. Bill Harrison has owned a few Sunsations and many other boats and as long as they are RED, Mr. Harrsion is happy and right now he is anxiously waiting for his new 36 SSR Sunsation SportBoat and then the 29 CCX will be coming. Both with matching Custom Paint from Mitcher T.

The Pirates of Lanier are at it again. Registration, hotel block and slip rentals are now online and ready. The 2014 Pirate Bash was incredible and the Lanier Partners thanks everyone who attended and invites old friends as well as new to join us at Lake Lanier, Georgia, just North of Atlanta, for the 7th annual Pirates of Lanier Charity Poker Run 2015, “America’s Top Charitable Poker Run”, cresting $400,000 dollars last year having raised $1,000,000 dollars for our chosen charities over the last seven years.

All around the country old 24 and 28 SKATER’S garner tons of attention and today we are seeing more and more brand new SKATERS being built for Outboard Power. With the release of the all new Mercury Racing 400R outboards SKATER already has a boat in production that will boast this new power.

A few months ago SKATER owner Peter Hledin let us in on how he was building this new smaller cat. The 31 has a 63 inch tunnel and overall beam of 10 feet 2 inches and of course is just one foot longer than the 30 SKATER.

This brand new model is scheduled to be delivered in April of this year and the expectation is a great handling Catamaran that will be capable of 120 MPH with super reliable outboard power. SKATER will be painting the hull in house and you can check back at PowerBoat Nation for updates and images of the boat as production continues.

Of course if your interested SKATER will build you one with Stern Drives and your choice of power!

The Florida Powerboat Clubs Miami Boat Show Poker Run has been a long time personal Favorite. 2015 Marked 10 years for me doing he run and it was a year to remember. I was cold but yet still had a great time. This great video from the Florida PowerBoat Club shows a great recap with quick views of most of the participants and stops throughout the run.

Be sure to check your local listings for the return of PowerBoating In Paradise TV. Season 15 offers (6) all-new episodes featuring the adventures of the Florida Powerboat Club. Episode#1 premiered this week on March 3rd, featuring the Key West Poker Run 2014, and will continue with multiple reruns through March 31st.

 

Hydraulic steering is not only the critical control piece of every high performance power boat its also one of the most common upgrades done to a boat that has made improvements in power and speed. Many sport boats and entry level boats that were equipped with smaller power options came equipped with manual cable steering. But as power boaters often enhance the engine performance of their boats the hydraulic steering upgrade is their first investment into the stability and safety to control the new speed of their boat. For the most part you can buy hydraulic steering systems as kits that come ready for installation. The one unique aspect of these installations is the assembly of steering hoses. For many this is a all new task and we thought what better way to aid in the assistance of this task by providing a quick tutorial on just how these fittings and hoses are assembled. Additionally, this is also a good quick pre-float check as over time these hoses can fail and the failure is usually near the fitting. The fix is quick and easy and can save your boating day as well as save your boat from a steering failure at speed.

Here’s a quick video that will explain just how to finish assembling a hydraulic hose fitting to the hi pressure steering hose provided in a common hydraulic steering system, enjoy!

The objective is we will build a “How-to” and “Why somethings better” library that just can’t be matched anywhere. But best of all because we are in an interactive community we will field suggestions from you all to bring possible features you would like to see us cover. Keep in mind our goal is to just give you the added confidence to make the right maintenance or purchase decision when it comes to doing whats right for you and your boat.

We’ve followed along as the one-of-a-kind Autometer instruments were constructed from renderings, and then Dean Loucks of The Art of Design hand painted the dials, to at last see them finally flush mounted in the dash of the new Pure Platinum Skater 388. As you sit in the cockpit of the new boat looking forward through the a one-of-a-kind Black Nickel Plated custom black leather wrapped and red stitched Isotta steering wheel you can’t help but ask where are all of the switches to operate this boat?

Low and behold as the power to the boat is turned on, the flat smooth C-Zone panels illuminate to provide images of switches that operate to the touch in the same way an iPad does. At long last all the technology that has surrounded the high end luxury market is finding its way into the Performance Marine Industry.

One thing for sure is that this is the start of what we will see in the future of the powerboat industry making its way across a larger spectrum of boats. From our perspective the future has never looked brighter.

The debut of the Pure Platinum Skater 388 at this years Miami International Boat Show proved to be one of the highlights of the show. As the crowd gathered at the unveiling to see what Douglas Marine had crafted for the 2015 season line up under the enormous Skater display and to feast their eyes on the new Pure Platinum Edition boat, we took the liberty of shooting pics of our fan favorite Model Miss PBN Brittany. It seems there is something that can actually make this boat look better and here she is!

Performance Boat Center has been under acceleration for a long time and now they building their own race team. With an expected August 2015 delivery the Team at Performance Boat Center is anxious to splash their brand new 2015 Skater 388 4 seat race boat that will be delivered with a Skater tilt trailer. Sterling Performance is building 2 sets of 750HP engines for power. The boat will be crewed and rigged by the Performance Boat Center service team with Myrick Coil, multi-national champion/Shootout Champion, as Team Manager and Driver. The throttle slot is still open but the list is short and will be finalized soon.

Performance Boat Center is also now a full SKATER dealer and they are looking forward to a long lasting relationship with the prominent Catamaran Manufacture.

Brett Manire of Performance Boat Center told us, ” We are really excited about owning our own Race Team. The ability to use the boat as branding and promotional activities as well as take people for Race Boat Rides will go along way and provide returns much better than just sponsoring a team.”
